Posting Flickr Photos on WordPress (and other Blogs!) via Flickr/Email

By: Ed

Update: Scroll down to the comments section for additional help on known Flickr/Wordpress solutions! And please add your suggestions if you’ve found other solutions!

WP + Flickr

Flickr.com. For professional and casual photographers alike, Flickr provides the perfect place for you to store, share, and get feedback on your photographic work of art. Complete with tools to modify, send out, and print your photos – its a photographers delight. Who needs anything else? You may find yourself asking, “How does this get any better?” Well, how does POSTING your Flickr photos onto your WordPress blog (and other Blogs!), sound? Yup, now you can. Let’s find out how:

Part 1: Ready your WordPress for Flickr Posts

The WordPress platform doesn’t allow just anyone to post to its site. So before we begin, lets make a few tweaks on WordPress so we won’t have any glitches later down the line.
始めましょう!Or, Let’s begin!

1) Login to WordPress, and go to your Dashboard

2) Click Settings

settings

3) Click on the Writing Tab

writing1

4) Scroll Down until you see an area entitled Remote Publishing.

writing2

5) Make sure that both Atom Publishing Protocol and XML-RPC are Checked.  This will allow Flickr to post to your site!

Ok, WordPress readiness now complete! Moving on…

Part 2: Setting Up Flickr

1) Log in to your account (if you already a Yahoo! account, you are set!), click on the You menu option, and choose Your Account.

flickrmenu

2) Click the 4th tab, Extending Flickr tab.

flickrextend

3) In the Your blogs area, click Configure your Flickr-to-blog settings.

4) From the drop down menu, select WordPress blog and click Next.

flickrblogtype

5) Enter the API Endpoint:yourdomainame.com/xmlrpc.php (no http:// necessary) along with your WordPress.com account Login Info. Click Next.

flickrlogin

6) Veryify that everything is all good. Click All DONE.

7) Done!

flickrcomplete

Now all you have to do to add Flickr photos on your blog is: 1) Goto YOUR PHOTOSTREAM, 2) Click on any picture that you want on your Blog, and finally 3) Click on the BLOG THIS button just above the picture. That’s it! But hold on a sec, we are not done yet…

How about the email feature? Now that you have set up Flickr photos auto-posting to your blog, setting up photo email to your blog is a snap. (Keep in mind that by emailing pictures, it will go to both your blog AND your Flickr account.)

1) Return back to your YOU menu and, again,
2) Click Your Account
3) Click on the 3rd tab, which is Email
4) Click on Your Flickr upload email (this sets up email addresses for both blog and  Flickr photo uploads)
5) Follow the instrux (blog post format, which blog to post to, etc…)
6) Then, Flickr will automatically give you an email address to send pictures to (which you can change, or ‘Reset’ frequently)
7) Finally! You are now ready to send Picture Posts via email.

In your email, remember that each part of an email translates to:

Subject: [this is your Blog Post title]
Body: [Blog Post content]
Attachment: [The picture that you want to post!]

Now get to posting! Keep your email address close at hand because now you have an extremely convenient way to post pictures w/out ever having to Login to your blog platform! Keep in mind that there must be a picture attachment, or your post will NOT…post.

Other Useful Information when Sending Photos via Email

As excerpted from Flickr Help:

How can I add tags when I upload via email or my phone?

Just type “tags:” in the subject line or body of the email followed by the list of tags you want added to the photo(s). (The rest of the subject line in is converted to the photo’s title and the body of the email becomes the photo’s description.)

Here’s an example of adding tags in action.

Subject: Lucy, my new cat tags: cute “black cat”
Body:     Lucy does the funniest dance moves!
Isn’t she cute?

Or you could send them in the body:

Subject: Lucy, my new cat
Body:     Lucy does the funniest dance moves!
Isn’t she cute?

tags: cute “black cat”

(If you include tags in the email body, they must be at the beginning of a new line.)

Note: Tags sent via email are used in addition to any default tags you set up.

And that’s all we have for today! Because sharing is caring, check back soon as I find more ways to enhance your WordPress experience.

Try disabling the Bad Behaviour Plug-In. Doing so will allow Flickr pics to be posted on your site. As soon as your done, re-activate the Plug-in!

It may depend on the theme. Which one are you using?

Also, be sure that the dimensions of the pix correlate to the admitted dimensions of your front page. Usually, that will fix the multiple images problem.

After searching on Flickr for several minutes on how to post on Wordpress blogs yours was the key. Although several posts talk about solutions, yours was the easiest and most thorough answer. Thanks

#20 Edo :

Go to the ‘Writing Settings’ section Look for these two items in “Remote publishing” and make sure they are checkmarked:

- ‘Atom Publishing Protocol’
- ‘XML-RPC’

Make sure both are checked off. Let me know how it goes.
