Netbooks

Efficiency. Precision. Convenience. The genesis of Technology creation birthed from these three principles, in a never-ending endeavor to make our lives easier. THE perfect example: the Computer.

The very epitome of Technology, no other man-made creation of human intelligence can surpass the creation of the Computer. Originally, computers were the size of school gyms, capable of solving mathematical problems and scientific calculations markedly faster than any of your exceptional scholars. Over time, like Man Himself, computers slowly saw an Evolution. Z1. ABC. ENIAC. EDSAC. PC. Laptop. Smartphones. Notebooks. And our latest TrendSpot – the Netbook.

So how has the Netbook contributed to an easier Life? Wiki explains the Netbook:

A netbook is a small laptop computer designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet. Walt Mossberg calls them a “relatively new category of small, light, minimalist and cheap laptops.”

Primarily designed for web browsing and e-mailing, netbooks are used on the Internet for remote access to web-based applications and are targeted increasingly at cloud computing users who require a less powerful client computer.Netbooks typically run either Windows XP or Linux operating systems rather than more resource-intensive operating systems like Windows Vista. However Windows 7 has seen some features that have been shown to run well on the newer generation of netbooks being released currently. The devices range in size from below 5 inches to over 13,typically weigh 2 to 3 pounds (~1 kg) and are often significantly cheaper than general purpose laptops at US$ 400,with some even given away for free in Japan if the purchaser signs up for a plan.

Indeed, the Netbook is proving to be the next generation of Making-Life-Easier, if only by virtue of mobility, Technology.

Where do we go from here? What’s next in the haute Technology arsenal? The next Evolution, if you will. Perhaps a computer so small that we could inject it into ourselves? Whatever the Future may hold, we’ll be waiting. For better efficiency. Truer precision. And above all, convenience. Isn’t that what Technology is, after all?

If you had the choice of any Netbook in the Market, which one would you choose?

I had a netbook, a Samsung NC10, but I ended up returning it. I’d rather just use my cell phone to surf the web on the go if I needed to. What I did like about it was how compact it was, but in the end I felt kinda gyped without a dvd drive and the speed of the laptop was slow. For a secondary computer, it works great though.

@Rodney Holgado Agreed. My iPhone is all that I would ever need for Computing on-the-go. Although, I would contemplate grabbing one if I ever wanted a better gadget to blog with. LIVE blogging via iPhone is kinda…tough.
