Google Gets Scannable

Google

Do a Google search. Go ahead, I’ll wait… Notice anything different? Like, “Hey! Where’d the Google Logo run off to?” If all you see on the site today are a bunch of vertical black and white lines (see Barcode), don’t run out wondering if Google is available for purchase. Google isn’t for sale. So what’s it for? The anniversary of the Barcode!

On October 7, 1952, inventors Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver were granted the first patent for their invention. The only difference between the bar code we know today and the one Woodland and Silver invented was that it was comprised of a series of concentric circles, not the 59 black-and-white vertical lines synonymous with the current design. Google, a search-engine website used by BILLIONS, is known to sneak in a few website tweaks here and there. When I was at SDCC this year, the Google Logo – comic book characters. During the Holidays they incorporate the feel of the Season into the Logo. Ya. I guess when you’re that BIG, you can pull off stuff like that. Gutentag Google. Gutentag. Now, how about implementing QR Code? Or, I wonder if I can use the Ultimate Code on the site…???

For all my fellow geek-icians, check out Google Patents.
