So a Firewire and USB Plug Walk into a Hub

So I have this Apple iSight, right. And well, it hasn’t been used in a while. I was thinking about re-purposing it to livestream our dog, Ipo (we were thinking about leaving him OUT of the kennel while we’re off at work to see how he’d do). Since I don’t want to have to spend money if I don’t have to (e.g. buying a new Webcam), I thought I’d use the iSight. Sounds simple enough, right? Just plug in the iSight and I should be good to go. Right? Well, there is this little problem. And it has to do with ports.

What’s the difference between apples and oranges? A whole lot! And that is where my Webcam issues lay. The iSight uses a Firewire connection to get it going. My problem: I have a USB port on my PC. Is there a remedy? Maybe. The iLynx is a hub that allows you to plug in Firewire and USB plugs. With a hub, I hope to achieve the “missing link” that will allow me to connect my Firewire iSight into a PC USB port. Will it work? I don’t know. What do you think? I hope so. If you have any suggestions of what I should do, please let me know in the comments. Even if that means buying a new Webcam. *le tear

Update: WoW. This must’ve been awhile ago. I guess the iLynx has been sold out. For a wah-hile. Oh well, I guess I’ll shoot for the Belkin.

Update: Looks like I need to get a new system that has a Firewire Port. Oh well, at least I can extend my USB ports from 1 to 7. Oi ve!
