Made in Maker Faire

Maker Faire

If you’ve ever participated in, or ever heard of the science fairs that so many of us took part of when we were kids, then you’re probably already familiar with what the Maker Faire is all about. Located in the sunny (but also pretty windy that day) San Mateo County Event Center in San Mateo, CA – the Maker Faire is two days of DIY awesomeness, a magical place of discovery, and THE place to experience a Science Fair like no other. Make no mistake. This ain’t your typical school science fair, but more like ecstacy for the Mind!

Maker Faire

From technological inventions to DIY projects, the Maker Faire offered something for Everyone. Kids from 1 to 192 can see inventions others have made AND (this is what makes Maker Faire such a great experience for Everyone) create and light up the desire to create inventions of your own – with the very many hands-on worksops available. And believe me, there were tons! It was soo overwhelming! What could you do? The better question is: what COULDN’T you do? Create your own circuit board, learn how to sew your own plush toys, design your own clothes, learn how to pick locks, and so much more!

At the end of the day, I was reminded of two things: 1) this is kinda like that Mr. Wizard show on Nickelodeon. That cool Science show that I’d watch every morning when I was a kid. Or, like Bill Nye the Science Guy. Do yiu remember those shows? And 2) the auta if the entire Event: with all the food vendors, people, and activities on-hand; it reminded me of all the goodness I experienced at the Minnesota State Fair. Combine the best parts of both 1) and 2) and what that equals to is one fun Makers Faire.

I’m already looking forward to making it out next year!
