Silicon Valley Comic Con is in its second year and its aim is to bring together America’s two greatest superheroes: Pop Culture and Technology. Presented by Steve Wozniak and featuring top celebrities, comics, independent artists, cosplay, video games, consumer electronics, music and apps, Silicon Valley Comic Con is where entertainment and our electronic worlds intersect. What I like most about conventions are the CosPlayers – a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. These CosPlayers are the true purveyors of their Art, and masters of a craft who go to great lengths to ensure the integrity and authenticity of their CosPlay.
Don’t mistake these CosPlayers for mere costumers, though, for they probably know more about the story/plotlines/characters/lore of their chosen form of CosPlay far more than the average person. The very inspiration that drives them to create such elaborate costumes are the very reason they are well versed in their craft. In short, they know their stuff! On top of that, they are great to have conversations with. If you are looking for a good primer on any given story, you can rely on these artistic individuals to enlighten you. I am very thankful to those who have shared in their stories and have allowed me to snap photos of them at SVCC2017. Without further ado, my tribute to you – the CosPlayer.
Also, I unfortunately didn’t get the opportunity to get the info of everyone I photographed. So, if I took a photo of you or you recognize anyone, please tag ’em or let me know who they are in the comments below so I can send ’em the hi-res photos if they wish! Thank you!
